Newly Qualified Teachers (NQT)
What is an NQT?
All newly qualified teachers must complete a period of induction. The aim is for the induction period to act as a bridge between initial teacher training and a career in teaching. It combines a personalised programme of development, support and professional dialogue with monitoring and an assessment of performance against the core standards. It will normally take place during one academic year. But teachers can take longer to complete the induction period.
AMS Support
AMS UK hopes, Insha’Allah, to support 10 candidates through the NQT programme each year. This support will be provided on the availability of funding each year. The support will come in the form guidance and advice from the AMS QTS Co-ordinator. The QTS Co-ordinator will visit each school before the start of the induction period.
It is expected that the school will pay a third of the NQT costs, one third will be paid by the employee and the final third by the AMS. The AMS will make the payment at the end of the course. Copies of the reports sent to the Local Authority should be sent to the AMS central Office, marked for the attention of the QTS Co-ordinator. Upon the receipt of the final report, an invoice should be raised from the school and payment will be released. A copy of charges from your local authority should be provided along with your initial letter of acceptance.
AMS Criteria
· Your school must be a member school and payment should be up to date
· Your school must be able to provide a Mentor who has a teaching qualification and is particularly familiar with the NQT standards. Previous experience of being a mentor is desired.
· Only one candidate per school can be supported at a time.
