CRB Checks
The Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) provides wider access to criminal record information through its Disclosure service. This service enables organisations to make safer recruitment decisions by identifying candidates who may be unsuitable for certain work, especially those that involve children.

List 99 Checks
A List 99 Check is the information held under Section 142 of the Education Act 2002. The list is maintained by the Department for Education (DfE) and contains the details of those who are considered unsuitable or banned from working with children. A List 99 Check is not a replacement for a CRB, but is considered to be the absolute minimum a person working with children must have.
If you would like an employee to start working prior to receiving a CRB Disclosure, you must ensure “that all the other recommended and mandatory pre-recruitment checks are carried out, including List 99.” -Safeguarding Children and Safer Recruitment in Education.
If your employee has a CRB Disclosure, it is not necessary to have them checked against the List 99 as this would have already been carried out within the CRB process.
