A. WHAT IS AN OUTSTANDING LESSON? – AN INSPECTOR’S PERSPECTIVE. Israr Khan
In this session/workshop delegates will get to learn and discuss the qualities which make a lesson ‘outstanding’. This is particularly aimed at the secondary sector but the generic content could be used to extrapolate for teaching and learning at other levels. The session is introduced by the facilitator by certain standards expected of an ‘outstanding’ session, and then the workshop part will facilitate a discussion by attendees to compile a plan for an active session using their own knowledge and area of expertise.

B. IMPROVING STAFF PERFORMANCE. Someera Butt
People are at the heart of all school activity. It is people that we seek to grow, nurture and build: from the pupils we aspire to develop, to the teachers we work with to guide them and achieve our vision. People potential, like the voltage in a battery, can be increased to create huge energy, which, if focussed and directed, can bring about great work and fantastic achievements. Join me to examine what a school can do to build and unleash staff potential to energise school improvement and pupil learning capacity.

C. PRESENTING DATA FOR INSPECTION. Michele Messaoudi
This session aims not only at helping attendees to present data for an inspection but to arrive at a better understanding of various performance indicators and therefore improving their own analysis of their school data. We will explore attainment and progress data for National Curriculum subjects in both the primary and secondary phases. Which performance indicators are the most meaningful? How can you keep things simple but sharply focused on raising standards? How does your school compare with national data? What is the rate of progress made by your pupils/various groups of pupils, in relation to Ofsted criteria? Since there is a direct correlation between attendance and achievement, we shall also look at attendance data.

F. IMPLEMENTING AN ISLAMIC BEHAVIOUR POLICY. Mustafa Styer
Infusing our school with the vision of Islamic tarbiyah alongside modern best practice. This training will involve an introduction to a previously developed policy built on prophetic and traditional views of tarbiya welded onto a practical behaviour policy catered to the reality of modern schools. This policy has been developed by a team of experts and conveys enough theory of Islamic tarbiya for teachers to transform behaviour problems into tarbiya opportunities. Teachers will walk away with a policy they can tweak to fit their school, enough knowledge of tarbiya to understand how the Quran and Sunna should be implemented in their classroom and an Islamic vision of the human being which many feel is missing from the OFSTED view of behaviour, the human being and the teacher's role in helping students draw closer to the prophetic model of character.
