Hub Reviews Summer 2009
Regional Hubs
London and South East
The AMS London Hub working in partnership with the South East Hub developed an Initial Teacher Training (ITT) programme this year which has the aim of helping teachers to develop the essential knowledge and teaching skills that are required for them to become effective teachers. We also hope the ITT programme will act as CPD support for the University of Gloucestershire's ‘Assessment Only Route’ towards attaining QTS. We have held four INSET days to date:
1. Planning, Plenaries and Other Basics of Teaching led by Khaled Miah2. Classroom Management and The Learning Environment led by Tony Wray
3. Personalised Learning by Terry Collet
4. Groupwork and Active Engagement Strategy by a team of trainers based in Luton

Midlands
The Midlands Hub has focussed this year on Assessment for Learning. There have been three INSET days which together have covered the five strands. There has consistently been good attendance at our INSETs, but we would welcome greater participation from all our AMS schools in the West Midlands and beyond. Insha’Allah, in the new academic year there will be further INSETs to develop teaching and learning in our schools as well as INSETs on Child Protection, Classroom Management, First Aid and Health and Safety Training. Please do get in touch with me if there are further INSETs that you would like planned. We will also be organising support conferences for pupils preparing for GCSEs in the core subjects next year, Insha’Allah.

North
We have had some exciting new developments with the University of Cumbria, in the drive to help teachers in Muslim schools obtain Qualified Teacher Status. A pilot scheme is underway and regular meetings between member schools and the University of Cumbria are proving to be very productive. AMS is also helping with Grants and subsidies for “Every Child Matters ECM 100”, provided by the University of Cumbria.
