AMS UK AGM 2011 Summary
The AMS AGM took place in Birmingham on Saturday 9th July 2011. Four new Executive Committee Members were elected along with a new Chairman, Ashfaque Chowdhury and Vice Chairman, Arafat Hingora. After being elected Chairman, Chowdhury said; "Our primary obligation is to our Muslim schools. We face a number of challenges that we can only overcome through adhering to our Islamic ethos and uniting in supporting each other. The welfare and education of the Muslim community in the UK is of paramount importance in order for us to play a key role in wider society."
AGM Main Session of the General Assembly
After recitation of the Quran and a welcome to the AGM the Chairman, Amjad Ahmed, presented his annual report (click here to download) on the progress and operations of AMS UK to the General Assembly. After thanking the Executive Committee for their hard work and dedication Amjad Ahmed announced his resignation as Chairman of the Association and resignation from the Executive Committee who thanked him for his hard work and commitment. Anwar Teladia, Treasurer, presented the Accounts for the year ending March 2011 for AMS UK. These can be found in the annual report. The Accounts and Report was approved by the General Assembly.

Constitutional Review
Tahir Alam presented the Proposed Constitution and thanked the 'Constitutional Working Group' for their hard work in prerparing the document after much consultation. After a brief discussion the Proposed Constitution was approved by the General Assembly and adopted by the Association. Click here to download the Constitution.
Executive Committee Elections
Due to the resignation of the Chairman from the Executive Committee five Executive Committee positions were up for election. Four new members were elected on three year terms with the remainig position vacant as follows;

Maulana Aminu Rahman (Al-Ameen Primary School, Birmingham)

Office Bearer Elections
The Executive Committee elected the Chairman, Vice Chairman and Treasurer for one year terms as follows;
Chairman: Ashfaque Chowdhury (Bury Park Educational Institute, Luton)
Vice Chairman: Arafat Hingora (Madani High School. Leicester)
Treasurer: Anwar Teladia (Birchfield Independent Girls School, Birmingham)
