Annual Muslim Schools Conference & Awards Ceremony 2011 - 'Tarbiyah for the 21st Century'
By the grace of Allah the AMS UK Annual Schools Conference & Awards Ceremony attracted over 300 attendees on Saturday 2nd April 2011. Below is a summary of the day with accompanying images.

The speakers for the day included Mufti Abdullah Patel (Al-Ashraf Primary & Secondary School for Girls) and Edward Hayes (Consultant to Nottingham Catholic Diocese).

The day was well attended by both brothers and sisters representing Muslim schools from all over the country.
Mufti Abdullah Patel: “As educators and teachers we have to be committed to our Islamic ethos, our principles and the tenets of our faith. So piety and righteousness must be within our educators and teachers because students require the presence of spiritually imbued teachers to serve as good role models. Teaching through personal example has the greatest impact so this is the first component of taking tarbiyah seriously. Likewise it is our duty as governors and teachers to provide an Islamic Curriculum, which is rich in spirituality, wholesome and something that offers nourishment for the soul and gives our students ample opportunity to excel spiritually in order for us to shape their habits, their thoughts and their morals we have to provide a curriculum we have to provide a curriculum which is rich in spirituality.”

Edward Hayes: “I believe the theme of the conference, Tarbiyah i.e. Human Development, is of critical importance and our church would share the concern that you have. Just because we live in an information rich age does not mean we’re going to understand and value things more clearly. We have to be clear that Education in itself is not sufficient; education has to be based in a moral and spiritual framework if it is to be properly successful. Education is not value neutral.”
The conference is also a unique networking opportunity for Muslim schools throughout the country.
