Award Categories
There are 4 categories in this year’s AMSUK Awards. These are:
AMSUK Transformational Leader of the Year, sponsored by the Yusuf Islam Foundation
This is awarded to the Headteacher, Deputy Head or member of a Senior Leadership Team of a Muslim School who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, efforts or achievement and made an exemplary contribution to the improvement of outcomes for learners. The leader must also have made an outstanding contribution to or demonstrated innovation in, developing spirituality in learners. The leader must have been in his/her role for at least 3 years. Judges will take into consideration;
- To what extent the school has met the Every Child Matters Objectives.
- The school’s Contextual Value Added score before and after the beginning of the leader’s tenure at the school.
- Most recent Inspection Reports.
- Exam Results, not necessarily league table positions but the level of improvement in results or the maintaining of good results while the leader has been in place.
- The nominee’s capacity to change, innovate, lead and effectively motivate teams.
- The leader’s effect on the tarbiyah of the school, using the Quran and Sunnah.
AMSUK Teacher of the Year, sponsored by TAUHEEDUL ISLAM GIRLS SCHOOL
This is awarded to the teacher in a Muslim School who has demonstrated outstanding teaching, efforts or achievement and made an exemplary contribution to the improvement of outcomes for learners. The teacher must also have made an outstanding contribution to or demonstrated innovation in, developing spirituality in learners. Teacher of the year will not be judged solely on results and outcomes but on the impact a teacher has made with his/her students whatever level they may be at. The category is open to all teachers at independent Muslim schools; primary, secondary, SEN teachers etc. Judges will take into consideration;
- Outcomes of Lesson Observations.
- The dedication of a teacher to his/her students i.e. work done beyond the classroom, above and beyond the call of duty.
- Examples of engaging, innovative, transformational and creative lessons and Teaching Strategies used by the teacher.
- The teacher’s effect on students’ behavior, using the Quran and Sunnah.
AMSUK School of the Year, sponsored by TBC
This is awarded to the Muslim School which has demonstrated outstanding and consistent standards, or significant improvement in standards and outcomes for learners. The school must also have made an outstanding contribution to or demonstrated innovation in, developing spirituality in learners. Judges will take into consideration;
- To what extent the school has met the Every Child Matters Objectives.
- The school’s Contextual Value Added.
- Most recent Inspection Reports.
- Exam Results, not necessarily league table positions but the level of improvement in results or the maintaining of good results.
- Extended services and activities provided for students and parents.
- The school’s relationship with the local community and other communities in terms of outreach. Partnerships with other communities and schools like School Linking Programmes.
- Evidence of events like Open Days that have a significant outreach to the different communities.
- The quality of teaching in Islam & Citizenship Education.
- The school’s effect on the tarbiyah of the students’, using the Quran and Sunnah.
AMSUK Non-Teaching Staff of the Year, sponsored by Bolton Muslim Girls School
This is awarded to the person employed by a Muslim School who has made an outstanding contribution or demonstrated innovation in their role. Judges will also take into consideration;
- Commitment and dedication to the school.
- Evidence of going above and beyond the call of duty in assisting the school, staff and students.
The award is open to Teaching Assistants, Lab Technicians, Lunchtime Supervisors, Admin Staff and any other Non-Teaching Staff employed by the school.
* As much evidence as possible mentioned in each category needs to be attached to the nomination form. Those nominating may include up to 3 additional pieces of supporting evidence such as; newspaper articles, parent/staff/pupil testimonials, photos etc.
